Phlebotomy (blood taking) appointments

As you may be aware, we have had to limit our provision of phlebotomy during 2023 as the funding we are offered didn’t cover our costs (phlebotomy isn’t part of our core contract and is funded separately).

We have continued to offer blood tests to severely frail patients, or those who hold a blue badge. Although availability at Southampton Hospital is good, and appointments are easy to book online or by phone, we do understand though that travel there is not easy by public transport, and parking is expensive, so we have been keen to find a solution.

Our Primary Care Network Eastleigh Southern Parishes Network Ltd were recently as a short term measure able to top up the funding we receive from the ICB (Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System – the Integrated Commissioning Board) meaning we have been able to increase our provision. We are also delighted to say that the ICB has acknowledged that the contract has been underfunded and has increased the funding under a new contract from January 2024.

The additional funding means we have opened up our provision to all patients over 16. We do have some specific capacity for frail patients to ensure they are still able to access this local service, but other capacity is released 7 days in advance and can be booked online or by phone.

Appointments are still also available at the Hub (Lowford) and Southampton Hospital.
