Fit note requirement

There has been a temporary change in legislation - employees whose sick period started on or after 10th December 2021 can self certify for sickness absence for the first 28 days.

The change, which used to be the first 7 says of the absence, has been brought in to relieve some of the pressure on Primary Care.

With immediate effect, any requests we receive for Fit Notes where the patient has been absent for less than 28 days (if the absence started on or after 10th December) will be rejected. More information can be found here. This can also be shared with employers who have requested the proof. If a workplace policy requires evidence from the employee prior to 28 days, a private sick note can be requested. The current fee for this is £35, and is payable by the employer.
